Movie Review: Ted 2

Sequels are always a daunting task in the world of motion pictures, lest a potential franchise become victim to the dreaded sophomore jinx phenomenon. A sequel has the difficult task of building on an established world and the characters that inhabit them. Usually for a film to even have a chance at making a sequel it means that the first film did it's job well and become moderately popular at the very least.

Ted 2 is definitely one of those films that you can see being a hit or a bust, based on the original films interesting premise of a talking teddy bear that comes alive. Although that kind of magical tale of toys come to life might have been in our heads since we were kids, when mixed in with the sometimes brilliant and slightly over the top comedy writing of Seth MacFarlane, it became something more.

Book Review:The Shark In the Park

Writing fiction for small children might seem to some like an easy outing for a writer, being that most books for children only have about one or two lines a page and are made up of fantastical and whimsical subject matter that does not have to follow some of the usual rules of writing a story, nor be as sophisticated as those for an older audience.

Like most tasks that seem easy from afar, the task of telling a story in such a short number of words is actually quite a feat, something that takes effort and extreme concentration. Engaging an adult reader in two hundred pages can be quite a task but imagine an author's burden when he writes for children. Not only must he craft a complete tale in a limited space but also hold the imagination and attention of a small child in a world filled with electronic distractions. 

Game Review: NBA 2K10 (PSP)

I bought a PSP for the simple reason that the Nintendo DS had no NBA basketball simulation games on the system, and that particular genre is one that my video game life lives and dies by.

I went out of my way the day I bought my PSP this Spring to also purchase copies of Live 09 and NBA: The Inside 09. Both games had many flaws I won't go into here, and although I usually never tire of a basketball title quickly these rapidly feel from from favor and collected dust on the shelf.

Later I was pleased to find that 2K Sports would be releasing a basketball simulation on the PSP in the Fall of 2009 and I went out and bought it on the day of its release.

It almost seems like the movie world has gone insane with remakes.

Things from the eighties and nineties have been harvested of their most special product, to be reworked and redone. Robocop, Total Recall and of course a new Spider-Man film just five years after the last Sam Raimi directed film, Spider-Man 3, in 2007.
